In the beginning: From COVAT to EVAT

In 2019, given the challenges of accelerated COVID-19 vaccine development and threats to scientific integrity, we stood up the Covid Vaccine Analysis Team (COVAT), hosted by Georgetown University, to provide independent analysis of emerging data on COVID vaccines.

COVAT members brought deep and broad scientific leadership experience with vaccines, including from government, industry, and academia.

COVAT held 50+ informal briefings and Q&A sessions with journalists, providing access to diverse expertise and opinions. COVAT also shared facts and perspectives through other channels, such as scientific publications and webinars.

In 2025, amidst increasing misinformation and mistrust of vaccines, and new threats to the availability and reliability of governmental information, COVAT became the Expert Vaccine Analysis Team (EVAT): providing facts and rapid analysis on emerging vaccine and outbreak issues.

An ensemble of independent, highly experienced, and trusted vaccine experts

EVAT is a group of internationally recognized and trusted vaccine experts. We are scientists and physicians with records of leadership in infectious diseases, immunization of adults and children, vaccine development, manufacturing, quality, regulation, safety and communications.

We work with journalists, media, public health and other partners to provide facts and unbiased analysis on vaccines and outbreaks, including what is and is not known. Our goal is to help everyone make informed decisions that keep ourselves, our loved ones and our communities as safe and healthy as possible.
